In Memory of Carol Capó

138-48

The next addition coming to the Newport News Public Art Foundation’s open-air art gallery is Masaru Bando’s “Due”. Imagine this man and woman embracing each other in the beautiful Rose Garden at Huntington Park, where many couples embark on a lifetime journey together. This sculpture will be dedicated to Carol Capó, in lasting and loving memory of her irrepressible spirit and her many contributions to the community and the Newport News Public Art Foundation.

Carol served as Executive Director of the Newport News Public Art Foundation from 2011 to 2015. She was diagnosed with cancer in late 2013.  Referring to the toll her treatment took on her work for the Foundation, she said, “What makes it work is knowing that life goes on, that we’re doing good things and I can contribute to that good work.”

Please join us in continuing Carol’s vision of a city filled with sculpture, where public art is available to everyone, and where good things do indeed happen.

All contributions are tax deductible, of course. You can send a check payable to the Newport News Public Art Foundation or click here if you prefer to use a credit card. Thank you for your support!
